Sights in Zadar and Sibenik region
Stankovci is a small village in Ravni Kotari, right next to the Pirovac exit from the A1 highway. The municipality of Stankovci is spread over 68 square kilometers and is home to around two thousand people who live “to the fullest” in their own way. They turn to tourism, young people, create conditions to attract people to come and live there. Stankovci are bathed in the sun, and you can see people working hard in the middle of the fields.
Residents of Stankovci are initiators of gatherings, organizers of events, founders of associations and guardians of tradition. The center of Zadar County, City of Zadar is 50 km away. Famous tourist destination Vodice is 20 km away and Šibenik is 24 km away. Residents of Stankovci Municipality say that they have everything plus peace, quiet and a healthy environment.
This location is also an ideal starting point for visiting the natural beauties of this region, such as the National parks Krka or Kornati waterfalls, and the Vrana Lake Nature Park. The distance from the sea and the nearest beach in Pirovac is 12 km. We also recommend a visit to the beautiful islands of the Sibenik and Zadar archipelago: Murter, Dugi Otok, Pašman, Ugljan, Zlarin, Prvić, Žirje i Krapanj.
There are many coastal tourist destinations in the vicinity like Vodice (20 km) and Biograd (28 km). In Ravni kotari you may also explore many antique villages, historical Roman monuments as well as preserved medieval towns. The nearest airport is Zadar Airport, 35 km away.
Zadar is the main city in North Dalmatia, situated 50 km away from the Villa Grandfather’s Courtyard in Stankovci. Most famous for its Old Town, set in a peninsula that is completely pedestrianised, the town has numerous Roman sights like St Donatus Church built in the 9th century, Cathedral of St. Anastasia from the 13th century with the belltower and the Forum which used to be 95m by 45m in size, believed to have been built between 1st century BC and 3rd century AD.
There are some other wonderful sights that are a delight to visit in Zadar! Even Alfred Hitchcock claimed that “Zadar has the most beautiful sunset in the world”. It really is a stunning sight, and there’s almost no better way to spend an early evening in the town in the background, the Sea Organ makes its soothing sounds. And then, when the sun is finished doing its thing, you can play around on the Greeting to the Sun.
Sibenik City is 24 km away from Stankovci and has some fantastic sights which exist from Venetian times. The town’s top sight is The Cathedral of St James which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, built between 1431 and 1536 from limestone and marble. St Nicholas Fortress is located on the islet of Ljuljevac at the entrance to the St Anthony’s Channel in the Adriatic. This fortress was built under Venetian rule in the 16th century as a defence to Sibenik port.
The Fortress is another UNESCO World Heritage site in Sibenik, as one of the Venetian Works of Defence. The town was featured as a filming location for Game of Thrones. The town’s most famous events are International Children’s Festival in June , music festival Seasplash in July and Medieval Fair in September – harking back to days long ago.
